Taliban GDI team’s secret visit of Islamabad

Pakistani delegation demands coordinated action over inadequate measures

An Afghan Taliban group made up of intelligence and security personnel paid a covert visit to Islamabad recently to explore how to address Pakistan’s worries about the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a banned organisation.

According to Taliban ranks in Kabul, a mid-level group led by Abdullah Ghazanavi, the chief of the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI), visited Pakistan to discuss the TTP and dangers to Pakistan.

The visit was a follow-up to a high-profile delegation’s travel to Kabul last month which was led by the Defense Minister Khawaja Asif.

A briefing on the measures taken by the Afghan government to deal with the TTP was given to the group.

However, the Pakistani delegation found these measures to be inadequate and demanded coordinated action.

Pakistan also presented evidence of the TTP leadership’s whereabouts to the Afghan Taliban leadership.

“The Afghan team met with the appropriate authorities to discuss the security situation and the destiny of the TTP and its affiliates during its stay in Islamabad,” According to the media reports.
