Taliban Spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid has said that a “short-term agreement” has been reached between the negotiating teams of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and the government of Pakistan.
In a tweet, the Taliban spokesperson said that talks between the two sides, with the mediation of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, were held in Kabul.
He said that a significant progress on related issues was made in the negotiations. He added that a temporary ceasefire was also agreed upon.
Zabiullah said that Islamic Emirate strives for a fruitful negotiation process and expected both sides to be tolerant and flexible.
Meanwhile, the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan outfit on Wednesday announced to extend the ceasefire with the government of Pakistan as negotiations with the militant group continued.
In a statement shared with the media via WhatsApp, TTP spokesman Mohammad Khurasani said that the ceasefire would remain in place until May 30. He confirmed that the Afghan Taliban were playing the role of mediators between the two sides.
He went on to say that a 32-member committee of the Mehsud tribe in South Waziristan and a 16-member committee from the Malakand division also held negotiations with the militant group on May 13 and 14.
He said the tribal groups had called for a ceasefire by both sides as talks are ongoing. He confirmed the extension of a ceasefire.
