Taunsa saved from flood due to timely action: Cheema

Adviser to CM on Information Omar Sarfraz Cheema on Sunday said that Taunsa city had been protected due to timely measures taken by the Punjab government.

Talking to reporters after visiting the PDMA Control Room, Cheema said that excellent rescue and relief measures had been taken to cope up with the dangers of flood. “The people are protesting over the inflated electricity and fuel prices in Punjab, but no protest is being held here over the floods.”

He said that an incompetent and inefficient federal government came to realise about the floods after a month. “The country is facing flood calamity since August 1. Where was the federal government at that time?” he asked. They were enjoying luxuries on foreign trips at that time, he denounced. He said National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf was still on foreign tours.

Cheema said that when the PTI made them feel ashamed through the media then they remembered about the flood victims. “The federal government is indulging in propaganda so as to create a sensation regarding the floods.”

He stated that the media should gather correct information relating to floods before airing the news. He vowed not to leave the people stranded alone, adding that “we are standing with the flood victims” till their complete rehabilitation.

He disclosed that Imran Khan jointly with the CMs of Punjab and KP was going to do a telethon for the fund raising today. He assured that all resources would be utilised for the rehabilitation of the flood victims. He said the Punjab CM had constituted a cabinet committee which was lending help after ascertaining the losses. “Our brothers and sisters are in difficulty… spreading sensation can create problems for the people as well as for the government,” he said, adding that now the conditions were going towards normalcy. He said that 24-hour monitoring regarding the flood situation was being done at the PDMA. He said that Imran Khan had laid the foundation of 10 new dams in the country and the PTI was fighting a battle on many fronts. He vowed to continue the mission of getting real freedom along with helping the flood victims.
