Teaching candidates decry not being appointed

Several candidates who had passed the exam for teaching posts have protested over not being appointed to the vacant posts announced by the government of Balochistan in the province’s Education Department.

The provincial government had announced several teaching posts in schools back in 2019. Career Testing Services Pakistan (CTSP) conducted the tests and several candidates were selected for interview. After the interviews were done, the passed candidates were to be appointed in different schools of the province.

According to the candidates, 382 Physical Education Teachers (PET-B14) were to be appointed, which did not occur. The passing candidates were shortlisted in a notification of the testing services for union councils, tehsils and districts of Balochistan. However, a group of failed candidates who had diplomas, claimed a candidate wishing to be unnamed, filed a constitutional petition (CP) in High Court of Balochistan against the appointed teachers.

After the high court’s orders to appoint diploma holders, the testing service found less teachers who had diplomas. The department further suggested appointment of non-diploma holders so that the lack of teachers could be addressed.

Several candidate were selected for appointment, but it had been three years and the appointment letters had not been issued, said a candidate. The candidates held meetings with the department concerned, but are yet to get a positive response from them. They have warned of stern action if the government continues to ignore their demand.
