Two officers of counter-terrorism department (CTD) Punjab were martyred in firing in south Punjab on Tuesday.

According to reports the terrorists targeted the CTD director and inspector when the officials were present at a restaurant near Khanewal.

The director has been identified as Mohammad Naveed Sadiq. He was a decorated officer who in August 2020 became the first Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) officer to be awarded the Sitara Shujaat, the second-highest civilian award for gallantry in Pakistan.

Inspector Nasir Abbas was also killed in the firing.

Security forces have launched an investigation into the incident. Pakistan is facing a growing trend of militant activities in different parts of the country.

Following the recent surge in terrorism across the country the National Security Committee (NSC) met a day earlier and vowed to deal with terrorists with an iron hand. The NSC meeting followed several terror attacks in the country.

The additional IG police said the incident was an act of terrorism.
