Theater legend Zia Mohiuddin passes away at 91

Renowned actor, director, and TV host Zia Mohiuddin has passed away at the age of 91.

The funeral prayers of Zia Mohiuddin will be offered at Imambargah Yathrib in Defence Phase 4 Karachi after Zuhr.

Earlier, NAPA sources claimed that Mohiuddin had been checked into a hospital’s intensive care unit.

Zia Mohiuddin was born on June 20, 1931, in Faisalabad; he started his career working for Radio Australia. He also worked for the British theater for a long time, also performed in British cinema and Hollywood in the 50s.

He further received formal training in acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Zia Mohiuddin was awarded Sitara-e-imtiaz in 2003 and Hilal-e-imtiaz in 2012.

Zia also founded the National Academy of Performing Arts in Karachi in 2004 and headed the National Academy of Performing Arts till the last moments of his life.

Zia’s father had the honor of being the author and dialogue writer of Pakistan’s first film Teri Yaad.

The interim chief minister of Punjab, Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and his family expressed their sorrow over Mohiuddin’s loss.

Marriyum Aurangzeb, the federal minister of information and broadcasting, also expressed her sincere sympathies to the late actor’s family.
