Throwback: Yasir Akhtar shares clip from Sahira Kazmi’s ‘Tapish’

Yasir Akhtar is this week’s celebrity who made us take a trip down memory lane, by sharing a clip from the 1989 serial ‘Tapish’ written by Noor-ul-Huda Shah and directed by Sahira Kazmi as a rebuttal against the then existing government, tackling significant issues such as rape, student unions and dictatorship.

Yasir Akhtar reminded the viewers of how wonderful the drama was, going on to become one of the most popular drama serials of PTV. He told that he was 17 when he did the serial, playing the role of Jamal Shah’s brother while multiple other greats such as Shafi Mohammad Shah, Rubina Ashraf, Khaled Anam, Sania Saeed and Kaiser Khan Nizami accompanied them in the cast.

‘It was brilliantly directed by veteran actress and producer Sahira Kazmi and beautifully written by Noor-ul-Huda Shah’, said Yasir. He added that Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s famous poem ‘Bol Ke Lab Azaad Hain Tere’ acted as the OST of ‘Tapish’, composed by Arshad Mehmood and sung by Tina Sani.

‘The serial was way ahead of its time. A big salute to the team’ was how Yasir Akhtar ended his post, also wishing peace to the departed soul of Shafi Mohammad Shah.
