Toyota has become the first to locally make the Pakistan’s first Hybrid Electric Vehicle “Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)”.
At a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the PM’s Office, a delegation from Indus Motor Company (IMC) led by Vice Chairman Shinji Yanagi and Chief Executive Ali Asghar Jamali displayed the first Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) made in the country.
Yoshiki Konishi, President of Toyota Asia and Chief Engineer of the Corolla Cross, attended the meeting as well.
Along with members of the Cabinet, including Federal Ministers of Finance Ishaq Dar and Industries & Production Makhdoom Murtaza Mehmood, Mitsuhiro Wada, the Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, attended the event.
The PM praised Toyota for taking the initiative to import the first locally made hybrid SUV into Pakistan and stressed the need to continue localization efforts there as well as put an emphasis on exports.
PM Shehbaz also pledged to respect the HEV incentives set forth in the AIDEP 2021–26 Policy.
Ishaq Dar was complimentary of the Corolla Cross Hybrid and the advantages that the country would get from the new technology in terms of both economic and environmental benefits.
Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is Hybrid fuel type with 1798cc engine capacity. Its mileage would range between 18 to 20 kilometers per liter, if run on fuel. The transmission of the vehicle would be automatic.
Toyota Cross price:
Although the vehicle’s price has not yet been disclosed, its low to mid-range variants expected to range from Rs1.23 to Rs1.34 crores (Rs12.3 to Rs13.4 million).

Corolla Cross 2023 features a fashionable and athletic appearance. A double trapezoid front grille, LED projector headlights and curtain daytime running lights (DRLs) are all present on its front. And below the front grille, there are additional LED fog lamps.
The driver’s seat has six power-adjustable positions. Additionally, the driver’s seat can be adjusted vertically. To enhance trunk space, the rear seats may be folded down 60/40.
The premium and mid-grade levels’ three-spoke steering wheels are coated in leather, while the low-grade trim’s two-spoke steering wheel is urethane-covered.
2023 Corolla Cross Specs include: 1798 cc hybrid 2ZR-FXE engine, 163 horsepower at 5200 revs, 305 Nm of torque at 3600 revs, and ECVT gearbox.
Competitors:
The Toyota Corolla Cross competes with the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, MG HS, and Haval Jolion in terms of price and body style, although none of these vehicles is a hybrid like the Cross. The Honda Vezel is the only rival with a hybrid powertrain in the same body type as the Cross, although it is an imported car.
