A tragic incident occurred in the Sakhi Hasan area of Karachi, where a stray bullet claimed the life of a seven-year-old girl on Thursday afternoon, as reported by the police.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Central Faisal Chachar, the young girl’s body was transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, and CCTV footage from the location of the incident was obtained.

During an inspection of the area alongside Rangers personnel, the official stated that the gunshot was fired by an armed suspect in the vicinity, who appeared to be pursuing another individual while holding a firearm. He clarified that the incident did not seem to be related to resistance during a robbery, as confirmed by the victim’s father.

To investigate the matter further, a four-member team led by the Gulberg police superintendent has been formed, according to Chachar.

In a separate statement, Ghulam Murtaza, a police officer from Taimuria, informed Dawn.com that the girl, named Maryam, was traveling in a car with her father at the time of the incident. He mentioned that two bullet casings, fired from different handguns, were recovered at the scene for examination. The family initially seemed hesitant to file a First Information Report (FIR), and the police were in the process of convincing them to initiate legal proceedings.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of the young girl and instructed the Karachi police chief to prepare a comprehensive report detailing the incident.
