To halt the long march of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), authorities and law enforcement officers constructed trenches on the Grand Trunk Road close to Sarai Alamgir.
The GT Road has also been blocked down for all sorts of vehicles by containers, including on the bridge over the Jhelum River.
Access to Islamabad via GT Road is now difficult due to the barricade. There are also several police officers on duty to stop the march.
For the inhabitants who are unable to travel, the road blockade has caused problems. According to reports, a number of ambulances have also become caught at the traffic signals. Additionally, transporters have urged the authorities to restore the roadway.
On a “Pakistan Bachao March,” the TLP is travelling in the direction of Islamabad and arrived in Kharian on Wednesday.
Sources said on Monday that the federal administration intended to work with the TLP to end their march. The team from the TLP will meet with a mission headed by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and ‘reasonable requests’ would be taken into consideration, the sources added.
