Trump announces deployment of 5,000 additional US troops to Poland

US president links military reinforcement to ties with Polish leader Karol Nawrocki

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the United States will deploy an additional 5,000 troops to Poland.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the decision was influenced by his close relationship with Poland’s conservative nationalist president, Karol Nawrocki.

The announcement came two days after U.S. Vice President JD Vance told reporters that a planned American troop deployment to Poland had been delayed. Washington has been reviewing its military presence across Europe and had long been expected to reduce troop numbers following Trump’s repeated calls for NATO allies to take greater responsibility for European defense.

“Based on the successful Election of the now President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, who I was proud to Endorse, and our relationship with him, I am pleased to announce that the United States will be sending an additional 5,000 Troops to Poland,” Trump wrote in the post.

Trump hosted Nawrocki at the White House in May last year and publicly endorsed him during a critical stage of Poland’s presidential election campaign. Nawrocki later defeated the candidate backed by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s pro-European centrist party.

The two leaders met again at the White House in September, where Trump said the United States could further expand its troop presence in Poland and pledged continued support for the country’s security and defense.
