Trump indicted by Manhattan grand jury

Donald Trump becomes first US ex-president to face criminal charges

Former President Donald Trump has been indicted of a criminal offense, after which he became the first US President to face criminal charges.

As per US state media reports, a Manhattan grand jury in New York on Thursday indicted Donald Trump on charges of paying porn star Stormy Daniels to cover up her affairs during the 2016 election campaign.

Following the jury’s verdict, the Prosecutor’s Office ordered Trump to appear in court for arrest.

According to the French news agency AFP, a New York prosecutor confirmed the indictment of former President Donald Trump.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office was investigating allegations against the former president over claims that porn star Stormy Daniels had been paid to cover up cases dated to the time of the 2016 presidential election.

According to reports, it was claimed that before the 2016 election, Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen gave $130,000 to Stormy Daniels to keep quiet about his alleged affair with Donald Trump in 2006.

Cohen pleaded guilty before a federal court in 2018, after which he was sentenced to three years in prison for his role in paying money to Stormy Daniels and a model Karen McDougall.

However, Donald Trump claimed that he had no affair with Stormy Daniels.

The indictment of former President Donald Trump came at a time when Trump planned to run for the presidency again. This action threatened to create a massive storm in the American political system. US presidential elections were taking place next year and former President Trump made it clear that he will continue his campaign for the 2024 election even if he is accused of criminal activities.

According to reports, Trump could face a fine after the indictment, while if convicted, he will face a maximum of four years in prison. Reports said that Donald Trump is likely to present himself before the jury next week.

On the other hand, Republican leaders called the action against Trump a political conspiracy to keep him out of the presidential election.
