Tariq Rafique, the mastermind of the Dasu terrorist attack and the notorious leader of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was killed in Kunar area of Afghanistan.

Mohammad Tariq Rafique alias “Button”, accused of attacking and facilitating Chinese installations in Pakistan and Afghanistan, was killed in Kunar province of Afghanistan.

“He has been out of contact since yesterday,” a senior TTP commander told the Afghan news agency. “We will confirm his death only after seeing the body,” the TTP commander, considered a close aide of Tariq, said over the phone.

The Afghan news agency claimed that a Pakistani official said that the evidence they have seen so far suggests that he (Tariq) has been killed, but more details are awaited.

There was no immediate statement from the Afghan Taliban.

Tariq belongs to TTP Swat, who was the master planner of the Dasu suicide bombing in Kohistan on July 14, 2021, in which nine Chinese were killed and more than 26 injured.

He was also responsible for planning attacks in collusion with the BLA that targeted the Chinese language centre in Karachi on April 26, 2022.
