Twitter to increase its political campaigning allowance

Twitter announced on Tuesday that it would allow more sorts of political advertisements on the social media site as it looks to increase income.

In an apparent reversal of its 2019 global ban on political ads, Twitter said that it seeks to grow revenue.

In a tweet, the platform announced that it will ease its ban on cause-based commercials in the United States and that going forward it would harmonize its advertising guidelines with those of TV and other media outlets.

Following harsh criticism for allowing election misinformation to circulate on its systems, Twitter and other social media giants like Facebook banned political advertisements in 2019.

Advertising for social causes was also prohibited in 2019.

Twitter’s then-chief executive stated, “We believe political message reach should be earned, not bought.”

After taking over Twitter in late October, Elon Musk reversed President Trump’s indefinite suspension and hastily implemented a paid verification tool that led to scammers on Twitter mimicking publicly traded firms.

Whereas, other journalists’ accounts were briefly suspended and these drastic adjustments made by Musk raised concerns about the platform’s sustainability.
