Type 1 polio virus confirmed from Lahore’s environmental samples

Type 1 wild polio virus has been confirmed in environmental samples taken from Lahore, the capital of Punjab. This was the fourth sample of wild poliovirus confirmed from Lahore during this year.

According to details, the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) has confirmed the presence of type 1 wild polio virus in environmental samples. The samples that came positive were from Lahore and Dera Ismail Khan, NEOC has said.

This is the fourth sample of wild poliovirus confirmed from Lahore this year and the first sample from DI Khan, according to the NEOC.

Samples were collected from Lahore on November 17 and DI Khan on November 19 which were later sent to the Pakistan National Polio Laboratory for testing.

The NEOC further said that the results of the genetic sequencing of environmental samples were awaited.
