In a tweet today, Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that he had a phone conversation with PM Khan wherein he spoke about the struggle against Russian aggression.
He added that the people of Ukraine sought peace and that was their unconditional priority.
On March 22, Prime Minister Imran Khan had spoken about the Ukraine conflict during the Organization of Islamic Conference Council of Foreign Ministers meeting and had urged fellow Muslim nations to help bring an end to the war in Ukraine.
The premier had spoken about the ‘great consequences’ about the war for the world, saying how the world already suffered from high oil, gas and wheat prices.
He urged the foreign ministers to mediate and try to bring a ceasefire and an end to the hostilities.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had last month departed for a visit to Russia just before the Russian invasion of Ukraine had begun.
A day before the premier’s visit, on February 22, the Ukrainian ambassador to Pakistan appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan to raise the issue of the Ukraine conflict during his meeting with Russian leadership in Moscow.
Later, despite mounting pressure by the West to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations on March 2 had delivered a carefully worded speech at the emergency session of the UN General Assembly, calling for de-escalation of tensions and sustained dialogue.
In the same UNGA session, Pakistan had abstained from voting on a resolution that deplored Russia’s military action against Ukraine.
