UN Cheif to meet US Senators

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is expected to travel to Washington today to meet US senators.

According to Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for the UN, Senator Patrick Leahy invited him.

Farhan added, “Periodically he does go to Washington to meet with members of the Senate and the House of Representatives to talk about UN affairs and the UN-US relationship.”

He also added that this is a step in the procedure by which we inform the executive branch and members of Congress about the work we do.

Additionally, he said, the secretary-general will meet with senators James Risch and Robert Menendez, the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
