The United Nations which co-organized the donors’ conference in Geneva for Pakistan for facing a devastating flood is itself surprised by the aid commitments to Pakistan.

The number of aid commitments made to Pakistan at the Donor Conference reached $ 11 billion.

Un Development Programme administrator Achum Steiner said donations at donor conferences often fall short of objectives and targets, but it is unusual for Pakistan to exceed the target.

On the other hand, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal said that the UN Secretary-General presented Pakistan’s case more than any Pakistani.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar said that Pakistan was once again able to attract the attention of the world.

France announced $10 million in aid for Pakistan whereas EU commission president Ursula announced 500 million euros in support of Pakistan to reconstruction.

The UK also pledged support to Pakistan and made a 9 million pound flood relief announcement.

Germany also announced 84 million euros to help Pakistan’s flood-devastated districts rebuild.

For the development and restoration of the flood-affected areas, the Islamic Development Bank contributed $4.3 billion.

Moreover, the World Bank also declared the completion of $2 billion worth of development projects in the affected regions.
