US complains to India for ignoring minority attacks

The United States released a report on religious freedom globally in 2021 on Thursday which stated that some officials of India were ignoring the attacks on minorities and even supporting them.

According to the report, the members of other religious communities were attacked and assaulted. Many of them were killed also due to their religion. Attacks also included cow vigilantism and torture and assault on those people who traded in beef.

Hindus, who are almost 80 percent of the Indian total population believe cows to be sacred. The BJP-led government in many states has already made new laws or tightened the already existing ones against slaughtering cows.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, while speaking to the media, said that the report was describing the grave situation around the world on religious freedom.

“For example, in India, the world’s largest democracy and home to a great diversity of faiths, we’ve seen rising attacks on people and places of worship,” Blinken said.
