US discusses HR violations in India at highest level, says Donald Lu

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu has said that the United States has discussed human rights violations in India at the highest level and pressed the Indian government to restore elections and political rights in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Lu speaking to BBC said that he wanted to make it clear that there had been no change in the US policy on Kashmir. He said that the resolution of the Kashmir issue was possible only through direct dialogue between India and Pakistan.

US State Department official further said that it should be ensured in Kashmir that the media could continue its work and US has discussed human rights violations in India at the highest level.

In addition on the question of the sale of F-16 fighter aircraft to Pakistan Lu said that the project of F-16 aircraft was not military assistance but the sale of military equipment. He also said that if the US sells military equipment to any country it also provides technical support.

According to the British broadcasting agency, Donald Lu did not answer the question about former prime minister Imran Khan. Donald Low made it clear that he would not take any questions over the matter.
