The United States has expressed concern over the attacks on churches and the Christian community in Jaranwala.
Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State, Vidaant Patel, stated in a press conference that there is deep concern about targeting Christian homes in Pakistan.
He mentioned that the United States speaks for peaceful expression and the right to freedom of religion and belief for everyone. Pakistani authorities should conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, and all parties involved in the violence should remain peaceful.
It should be noted that yesterday, in the city of Jaranwala, located in the Faisalabad district of Punjab, fiery individuals protesting against the blasphemous act attacked four Christian homes in Kruschein Colony and Eesay Nagar. They set fire to houses, vehicles, and belongings of the Christian community.
According to the spokesperson of the Punjab government, an attempt was made to incite attacks on minority populations by using the pretext of disrespecting the Quran. The police thwarted this attempt, activated the Peace Committee, and arrested more than 100 individuals.
The Punjab government also ordered a high-level inquiry into the Jaranwala incident.
