US names AQIS and TTP leaders as global terrorists

The United States has named four terrorists from Al-Qaeda in the Indian subcontinent (AQIS) and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as global terrorists.

The US also vowed that the Biden administration will make sure that terrorist groups do not use Afghanistan as their bases.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that as part of our unwavering efforts to prevent terrorists from utilizing Afghanistan as a base for international terrorism, the United States is committed to employing its entire arsenal of counterterrorism capabilities to combat the threat presented by terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan, including AIQS and TTP.

He further added, “The department of the state designated four AIQS and TTP leaders as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs) under Executive Order (E.O) 13224, as amended, for their leadership roles in their respective groups.”

The names included Osama Mehmood the emir of AQIS, Atif Yahya Ghouri the deputy emir of AQIS, and AQIS recruiting branch manager Muhammad Maruf.

The state department also nominated the deputy emir of TTP Qari Amjad who monitors operations in KP.

The US also blocked all assets of these leaders and they are prohibited from engaging in any transaction with US nationals.

Afghan Taliban as part of the accord promised to not host terror groups, however, as per the UN security council report earlier this year Afghanistan has failed to cut complete ties with Al-Qaeda and TTP
