US says cases against Imran Khan of no concern to it

United States State Department spokesperson Ned Price has said that the terrorism case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan was a matter of legal and judicial system of Pakistan and that the US did not side with a political party.

Answering a question about the case under anti-terrorism law against Imran Khan, he said that the US was aware of the reports of charges. He declined to comment on the matter, saying that it was not directly a matter of concern for the United States. He added that the US did not have a position on one political candidate or political party.

Price added that the US always supported democratic, constitutional and legal principles around the world and in Pakistan.

Imran Khan is facing a terrorism case over the controversial remarks he had made against a woman judge.

The PM had made the remarks in relation to party leader’s Shahbaz Gill’s physical remand, which had been ordained by the woman magistrate.

The PTI had also alleged that Gill was subjected to torture during detention, however, the Islamabad Police have denied all such allegations.

The Islamabad High Court also issued a contempt of court notice to the PTI chairman over his remarks against the judge.
