US sends fresh batch of 4.7mn COVID-19 vaccines doses

The US has donated more than 61.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Pakistan so far

The United States on Tuesday sent an additional 4.7 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to Pakistan, exceeding the total number of vaccines donated by the country to Pakistan to over 61.5 million.

In a statement issued by the US State Department, the vaccines were given to Pakistan as part of the global vaccine-sharing initiative co-led by the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness, and COVAX program to fight against the Coronavirus.

“As part of our ongoing solidarity with the people of Pakistan to combat COVID-19, the United States donated an additional 4.7 million Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine doses via #COVAX. In total, we have now donated over 61.5 million vaccines doses to Pakistan,” the statement from the US State Department said.

Presently, Pakistan has successfully achieved its goal of vaccinating over 100 million citizens against the COVID-19 virus.

Pakistan has lifted all restrictions following mass vaccination and a sharp decline in COVID cases. The National Command and Operation Centre, the body which was set up in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to collect, analyse and process information, was shut down last month.
