I would recollect the memory of a workshop that was organized some twenty years back by a renowned Institution located in Punjab’s twin city territory. Interestingly, the invitation dispatched to me was reflecting an attention acquisitive topic that instigated the desire to attend this Conference cum workshop before popping up any second thoughts into mind. The topic of the Conference was “Future Digital Equipments & Wireless Operating Systems, Modules and Gadgets”.

Right after a few days, we were the participants in that Conference and attended the lectures being passed on to us by a few Artificial Intelligence (IA) experts. The mesmerizing information about the future technologies, gadgets and their proposed uses was dispensed which divulged that the Goras had an in-depth study and future planning about the uses of such gadgets. Among others, the most astounding technologies which had sufficient potential to target the global communities were smart mobile phones and smart Televisions (TVs).

At that time, mobile phones were in the market but with very limited access to the general public. Very few brands were manufacturing mobile phones like Motorola, Siemens and lately Nokia with controlled inducements like the user had to pay for receiving mobile calls, rates of trunk calls were different from local calls, mobile cards were the sole source to top up mobile accounts and the least amount required was Rs. 600 which had limited expiry period. No calling or messaging packages were introduced, yet. Talking about size, usually, mobile phones weigh up heavy with obsoleted bigger size along with an aerial (antenna) installed at the top. It had mono-coloured screens i.e. green, white or light blue. Today, smart mobile phones have a totally different world to live in with.

The main instinct to reminiscence what mobile technology was was then in the 90s and after two decades what is the state of advancement induced in this technology which Goraas worked for years ago. In the Conference, they told us that through smartphones one would be able to operate one’s Air Conditioner (AC), water motor, washing machine and even the main gate of home while sitting in some distant place or City. They also mentioned that through mobiles one would be able to operate one’s international bank account, pay School fees, reserve train or flight tickets etc. All those predictions which appeared to us as not more than dreams and tally claims are proved today as true. But it is a fact that modern technology has been obsoleting the old one at a greater pace. It was almost very evident that Western countries were working to control humanity through such gadgets and time has proved that what was planned two decades ago has materialized today. Actually, we are lagging behind the rest of the developed world.

At the venue, one thing that shook us was about proposed technology and specs of TVs, in future. The TVs could be able to record or capture live videos of anybody who would be having a smart TV whether installed in his Drawing Room, TV lounge or Bed Room. This would be only one step away from any hacker who may be able to approach it through wireless gadgets. In this way, the smart TV would play a role of an observer in lieu of a receptor. Likewise, mobiles were also predicted as an ideal source of listening and recording voices of individuals for anyone else having hacked these cell phones. Let me tell you about one more thing which was boasted about years ago. A switched-off mobile may also sneak into your conversation and communicate with someone else unless you unplug your cell phone’s battery. But amazingly the choice of the user to unplug the battery has been withdrawn by the manufacturers. Your smart mobile phone can give access to an intruder anytime, anywhere as modern technology has shown many merciless miracles. But the positivity of modern technology makes society feel and act smart and strengthen. Today, Polygraphic technology can distinguish between truth and lies.

A few days ago while addressing a procession, Mr. Khan freaked about some of his fabricated audio and videos. As soon as I listened to him, the words of Goras echoed into my ears that we listened in that Conference. As Mr. Khan said, by using deep fake technology, such audio and videos are being trickily produced to target him, but I still stand at odds with Mr. Khan. To some extent, we may agree with him about audio clips but when it’s about videos, no technology can make fake videos unless your own smart gadgets are used to spy for someone else. Whoever attempted to fabricate a video clip was recklessly found as making a failed attempt. Social media is flooded with such fake videos naming any renowned personality but everyone can guess the authenticity of these fake clips. I may be wrong, but Mr. Khan may be a victim of one of his own smart gadgets if someone has conspired with him as per his claim and apprehension. This is a very shameful act on part of an intruder.

As far as my interpretation is concerned, different electronic gadgets might be used to hack PM office and PM House, as well. Unfortunately, it seems these moves were planned months ago when Mr. Khan was feeling himself in hot waters. PTI’s core committee was hatching strategies to control Khan’s downing position which is their political right. At such a time, bugging any political leader or party merits being declared an unethical and unscrupulous stunt. Now, those recordings are being used to malign Khan’s ever-emerging popularity after his ouster from PM ship. A full stop must be placed on such black mailings. The political elites should realize the fact that if you throw mud on others, you must have dirty hands. Technology has no sense on its own but it’s we who can make a difference by using it or abusing it; choices are our own.
