Wahab hungry for comeback in international arena

Pacer says competition is with himself only, not other cricketers

Veteran Pakistan pacer Wahab Riaz has said that he is crazy when it comes to playing for his country.

“When I am playing cricket, the focus and goal is always team Pakistan. I am very passionate when it comes to representing my country and it is the only reason I am still playing cricket,” he remarked.

Talking to journalists in a virtual press conference he said that he has been working really hard for a comeback to the international arena by performing well in the domestic circles.

“I have been performing and my stats speak for it. I was the second-highest wicket-taker in the last edition of PSL as well. I am hopeful that I will perform and get the attention of selectors.”

Wahab was of the view that he can serve Pakistan for another 2-3 years. Talking about competing with Shaheen, Harris, and Hasnain, he said that he wishes and prays for their success.

“My competition is not with any of these guys. I am competing with myself so that I can perform better and make a comeback.”

Wahab seemed to be satisfied with the pool of reserve players.

He lauded Pakistan Cricket Boards’s effort by mentioning COVID-19 rise, saying that having reserve players was a good idea.

The 35-year-old was happy about the squad at his disposal.

“We have got all fronts covered. Matches are won by a team and not by big names only. We have a strong bench and I am hopeful that we will finish on a high by not repeating our mistakes,” he added.

Talking about Darren Sammy he said that Sammy is an Icon for Peshawar Zalmi and he will join the yellow storm later as he currently has some commitments.

Talking about the bio-secure bubble he said that he is very happy with PCB’s arrangements as they have booked the entire hotel.

“We have got the entire hotel, all the PCB staff and players are in there without any inference by people outside the bubble. So I am happy about the arrangements,” he concluded.
