‘Had no choice’: PTI signed agreement cause of increase in POL prices, says PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that he was aware of the impact of increased fuel prices and that the government had no choice owing to the PTI-IMF agreement to raise fuel prices.

In a statement issued by PM Shehbaz on social media, he expressed his concerns by saying that the previous PTI government had made the “worst-ever deal” with the IMF. He said that the previous government had taken extremely bad economic decisions.

He expressed the resolve to get Pakistan out of the difficult economic conditions.

The premier claimed that the whole nation had been going through tough circumstances. He asked how PTI claimed its innocence because the current circumstances were the result of their doing.

A day earlier, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail announced a hike of Rs24 in price of petrol and Rs59 in diesel price. After the current increase, the POL prices have reached the all-time highest. He had claimed that the PTI government had reduced the prices only when they realized that no-confidence motion against them was going to be successful.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has termed the increase as a “midnight robbery”. Many PTI leaders including Shoukat Tareen, Asad Umar, Farrukh Habib and others have criticized the Shehbaz Sharif-led government.
