We must not remain silent over rising anti-Semitism, says Biden

US president Joe Biden has promised that he will not remain silent over rising anti-Semitism in the United States.

“Silence is complicity; we must not remain silent… I will not be silent. America will not be silent,” said the president at the White house reception celebrating Hanukkah.

The Anti-Defamation League reported that in 2021 there were 2,717 anti-Semitic incidents in the United States a record number. This represents a 34% increase from the previous year.

One of the oldest Jewish advocacy groups in the nation, Jewish the American Committee stated in its report that 39 percent of American Jews admitted to changing their behavior, limiting their activities, and concealing their Jewishness due to concerns about anti-Semitism, while about one in four reported having personally experienced anti-Semitism in the previous year.

“I recognize your fear, your hurt, your worry that this vile and venom is becoming too normal,” Biden said.
