Welcome relief: Govt reduces petroleum products’ prices

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday announced new prices for petroleum products, reducing them in a welcome relief for the nation.

PM Shehbaz said that after the reduction of prices in the international market, the government had decided to reduce petrol price by Rs18.5 per litre and diesel price by Rs40.54 per litre.

In his address to the nation, he said, “I want to congratulate the team which has finalised the deal with IMF and all of the credit goes to our Finance Minister Miftah Ismail. We have taken the burden of the previous government and as the prices of petroleum reduced in the international market, I wanted my people to get some relief.”

The prime minister also said that as a nation, we had to look to our future projects and work together for the prosperity of our country.

Just before the PM started his talk, Vice President of PML-N Maryam Nawaz announced in her Khushab jalsa that the government was going to announce the new price of petrol and diesel.

Earlier, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail also said the government would announce a reduction in petroleum prices today and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had no objection to it.

Talking to the media, the finance minister said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wanted to provide relief to the people of Pakistan, therefore, prices of petroleum products would be lowered today instead of July 15.
