President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari has expressed his plans in starting Chamber’s own radio station and TV Channel. In a meeting with an officer of PEMRA, showing his dissatisfaction with the role of present Pakistani media he said that instead of highlighting crimes and other negative news it should create awareness about trade, business, investments, and the economy to produce entrepreneurs.
He said that Chamber’s media will promote those who had earned money with hard work and honesty. Mr. Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari and his father Zafar Bakhtawari have always been active in the social and economic development of the country and have very strong and right opinions about the country’s development. He is rightly dissatisfied with the role of electronic media. It is felt by most Pakistani audiences that most of the role played by our electronic media is negative, especially in promoting western culture in our Muslim society. Documentaries and features produced for enhancing the audience’s vision and highlighting the real problems and their solutions are non-existent in their content.
Electronic media can bring into their discussions wearied-out traditions and norms and can put the nation on right track. Topics like how to earn a livelihood, success in small businesses, business man’s integrity, and goodwill, branding your business, entrepreneurship, places to visit, Innovativeness in your service and products, crucial role of CBOs’, how to establish Cooperative Societies, Taking care of communities, Students’ talent, Sports and Exercise. Our Traffic huddles, Hobbies, baby care, moral values, helping others, scheduling our activities, helping the needy ones, narcotics, health, food, adulteration, healthy minds, future planning, savings, old age, traveling, tourism, health clubs, think tanks, corruption, justice, community organizations and social problems, communication era and social media, generation gap, ignoring our own strong values, agriculture, modern technology, global warming, space exploration, genetic engineering, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics, nanotechnology, cyberspace, gardens, flowers, seasons, air pollution, and protection and safety.
Vast business activities are considered the strength of a society, everyone must think about the development of his/her own sector and section of society. No matter whether we are serving somewhere are having our own business and source of income, we always need more and more information about our work, its flow, problems, and their solutions must remain our main concern. Services and businesses are not done in an individual’s capacity only.
There is always a whole chain of activities and involvement of a faction of the society in any work. We need to be well aware of nature and day-to-day changes in our area of work. Media must help people to come close to their communities and think about their links with the nation and their national responsibilities. Unfortunately, our media have thrown the nation into the directionless flow of politics. This compartmentalization has created hatred which we observe in our everyday life. Media have a role to play in bringing national harmony and unity. There is a dearth of specialized journals and channels. Now there is a vast field before young journalists in social media many prominent journalists have also made a place in social media but unfortunately they are also shining stars of political horizons.
They find it easy to abuse one group or the other and bring fake or real facts before their followers. Specialized area is still vacant in social media where one can serve education, social uplift, culture, and values, and in any one area from those already mentioned above. We see that every developed western country runs more than one health channel. Their general channels also devote enough time to health and education and social problems and their solutions. But we are always in the habit of toeing others’ paths. When we find something earning successful business, we turn toward that direction blindly. Though this attitude ing brings failures to so many people they will never try to innovate and provide some new thing with a new style. Mr. Bakhtawari has shown an example by planning the right job for the media in his own field.
We must appreciate it and the professionals should provide him with all the necessary technical and innovative advice. One thing from myself is only that he should not forget that the parties in the field will feel a bit jealous of this venture and think that if the business community will continue to start its own channels and radio stations then in that case the monopoly of the present media will be disturbed. New media organizations especially those organized by big business people will certainly face this problem. Old monopolists often send their own people to such new organizations with the task to make them a total failure. But we hope that people with devotion and national spirit will never fail in such initiatives.
