Why I am not getting hired

"To be candid why should a company hire you if you are even unable to discern your objective of life? It may take some time to get an appropriate job, but that job must lead you to achieve your goals in life"

In this age, both the applicants and recruiters are confronting problems. Applicants are eyeing for the superlative opportunity and recruiters are looking for the preeminent resources that can enlarge value in their organization.

In this article, I would like to share a few anomalies for recruiters and applicants and their conformity. This article is based on my objective experience and observation. If we start from recruiters, recruiters have a lot of workload and densities from their organization. They try to find out the best resource for vacant positions, a resource that can stay and perform in the organization. In the 21st century, it is laidback to market your vacant position. The finest and thrifty option is LinkedIn and social media then there are some of the hiring agencies who are charging for the hiring. The second one is the latest and best option to have your own portal for hiring. To me, most of the time recruiters must not go for third parties or costly solutions even though it depends on the nature of the vacant position. The employer has given you the role of recruitment so you must have strong linkages in the appropriate industry and you must have talent in your hand, as this is your prime job.

Now coming to the kinds of applicants and the two types of nature of jobs; one is for fresh graduates and the other one is for experienced specialists. Applicants spend time and energy to find out the best suitable opportunity and they spend time to apply. At least recruiters should see their applications in the right way, even if applications are in hundreds. To be chivalrous, recruiters must reply to them in a good way. Recruiters should call the candidates for an interview after screening, even if hundreds of applicants are passing the basic criteria. From the recruiters’ end, they must communicate the salary package, benefits, job description and atmosphere of the company. This will not only help themselves but also to the applicants, as recruiters will get only the germane profiles.

If we talk about applicants, they must see the job ads accurately and if they are passing the basic criteria then they should apply or else they are just killing their time and recruiters’ time as well. For the fresher, most of them just want the job, they do not have their future objectives and even some of them are unable to tell the exact job which fascinates them. Their common reply is, ”Sir I just want a job please adjust me somewhere”.

To be candid why should a company hire you if you are even unable to discern your objective of life? It may take some time to get an appropriate job, but that job must lead you to achieve your goals in life.

Fresher has one more communal behavior and that is salary negotiation. I always said that one is doing investment to get the education for the 16 or 18 years of their life. Unfortunately due to Pakistan’s bad educational system, one does not have any kind of practical experience during their study period. Even in some jobs, you do not know the basics. So for fresher, they should focus on learning and after getting an experience of one or two years, they will be in the position to negotiate their salaries. At the start, they should just start the job on whatever terms, offered by the employer. Experienced professionals are also making mistakes while applying for the job.

For instance, they have seen the basic criteria written in the job ad and they know that they are not meeting the basic criteria, but they will apply. They apply with the thought, “At least there must not be any objection to apply.” Please avoid this behavior. In a corporate setting when one starts their job, they need at least one year to understand the environment, job nature, and job description.

In the next year, you would be in the position to perform. So at least one must stay in any organization for three years. When you are going to join an organization, you must think thrice and not only think but also discuss with your mentors and your links in the new organization so that you are in a position to make a good decision.

You should also follow the seven steps of the decision-making process before any corporate decision including a job switch. In the seven steps of decision-making, you need to identify the decision, gather relevant information, identify the alternatives, weigh the evidence, choose among the alternatives, take action and review your decision. In this age, references do not matter a lot, it’s all about your qualifications and experience which lead you to get the job and even excel in the current job. Whenever recruiters share a vacant position with his/her links for the purpose of having the best candidates, one must not make this liability for the recruiter.

As if someone is sharing with you, it does not mean that without meeting the criteria, the recruiter is in the position to hire the candidate. Finally, you should be well prepared before the interview. So the crux of the article for applicants is to apply only for the best suitable job and for the recruiters is to pay attention to every single applicant.
