Wolf attack near Thatta leaves scores of cattle injured

Around 35 cattle heads, including cows, buffalos, sheep, and goats, came under the attack of a wolf in coastal village Shahpur of district Thatta on Wednesday morning, leaving nine of them critically injured.

A herd of cattle grazing in the local farmland fell victim to a wild wolf. Upon seeing the wolf, the shepherd preferred to save his life rather than offer any resistance.

Armed with sticks and axes, the villagers started searching for the wolf that had fled after attacking and injuring the livestock, but they were unsuccessful in catching it till the filing of this report.

The affected cattle breeders told local reporters that livestock had been affected following such wild beasts in the area, adding that livestock was one of the significant sources of income for the coastal region’s population. Still, neither the wildlife department nor the livestock department took concrete steps to curb the menace.

“Similar incidents have taken place in the past causing substantial financial loss to us,” held Ghulam Nabi, a local breeder adding that none of the wildlife department officials had ever taken notice of such incidents.

They demanded that the Sindh government should administer the anti-rabies vaccine to the affected cattle heads to save the local human population that consumes their milk and other dairy products made from that milk.
