United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said the U.S. is working to bring back dozens of Americans from Afghanistan.

“The United States is working to help 44 Americans in Afghanistan who want to leave Afghanistan and are in the custody of Taliban authorities,” Blinken said in a statement.

“We are working to secure the freedom of Americans in Afghanistan, the families of these Americans request that their identity, and cases should not be discussed publicly,” Blinken said.

He said that since the Taliban takeover, 975 Americans helped leave Afghanistan, and 175 people in Afghanistan call themselves Americans who went to Afghanistan after 2021.

U.S. forces pulled out of Afghanistan after two decades in 2021.
