World Bank president declines call to resign over remarks on climate crisis

During an interview with Politico on Friday, World Bank president David Malpass refused to quit and said that none of the bank’s shareholders had requested his resignation.

As per the Deutsche Welle report, Malpass apologized for his remarks, calling them “unfortunate.” When asked, ‘Are you a climate denier?’ I should have said no,” he told Politico and CNN international.

“It’s clear that greenhouse gas emissions are coming from man-made sources, including fossil fuels, methane, the agricultural uses, the industrial uses, so we’re working hard to change that,” Malpass further said, as reported by CNN.

Earlier on Tuesday, Malpass came under fire for his remarks about climate change in an interview with the New York Times. While being asked whether he believed in man-made climate change and his views about the burning of fossil effect on the planet by journalist David Gelles.

He replied “I don’t even know. I’m not a scientist,” This triggered Climate diplomats and organizations, who demanded US President Joe Biden to remove Malpass from his position.
