World needs to take action to maintain food security: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the world needed to take action to maintain food security since natural disasters brought on by climate change could worsen the food deficit.

On the occasion of World Food Day on Sunday, PM Shehbaz claimed that increased global poverty and hunger are two harmful effects of climate change in his tweets.

According to the prime minister, recent floods in Pakistan devastated millions of acres of standing crops, forcing an agricultural nation like it to import food to make up for this loss.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has recently been engaged in discourse and events on climate change, natural disasters and food security.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was recently appointed as the vice-chair of the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2022, also known as COP-27.

Out of 195 UN members, Pakistan was given the honor of voicing the issues of climate change at global as well as regional forums.

PM Shehbaz jointly chaired the conference along with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and Egyptian President El-Sisi.

The premier also raised the issue of climate change at the SCO Council Heads of States meeting and also at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
