Zahid Ahmed’s upcoming ‘Mor Moharan’ problematizes water scarcity

Zahid Ahmed's upcoming drama serial is based on the fight to accumulate more and more of water

Environmentalist literary narratives are the new cool, and for all the right reasons. Gone are the days when people were of the view that readers and writers formulate about the ignorant section of the society. Literati all over the world are now bent upon producing writings that are environmentally concerned and therefore inculcate a similar sense into the readers. A few literary productions that have emerged from South Asia in this regard include Gulzar’s poetry book, Green Poems, Mustansar Hussain Tarar’s magnum opus Bahao and Amna Mufti’s novel, Paani Mar Raha Hai.

Drama fans are now all the more excited, for their favourite genre too, will be producing a work in the area. Zahid Ahmed, one of Pakistan’s chocolate heroes and a fine actor from the current lot of actors took to Facebook on the 29th of October to share a trailer of his upcoming drama serial called Mor Moharan. Starring greats like Samiya Mumtaz, Sonya Hussyn and Ahmed himself, the drama, as the actor told in the captions, will be based on the barrenness of a desert region. Adding more details, he said that the barrenness depicted will result in a fight for water ensuing among the people of the desert, including both males and females. As a result, the serial produced will be carrying a story-line relevant in terms of all the themes it will be addressing – reconsidered gender roles as well as environmental issues.

The serial, even before the announcement of its releasing date, has made everyone excited, for it is after quite a long time that Pakistan is bringing a drama serial that will be shifting its focus from domesticated stories to problems outside the homes. A few commentators were also found saying that the trailer has reminded them of PTV classics which used to address the desert regions’ issues time and again.

The serial will be released on TV One, both on their television and YouTube channel.
