Zia Mohyeddin helmed Urdu language version of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ to be staged in Karachi

Karachi’s National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) is all set to bring its own staged version of William Shakespeare’s popular tragedy ‘Romeo and Juliet’, translated into Urdu by Khalid Ahmed and directed by TV presenter, actor and director Zia Mohyeddin.

The performance will begin at the said institution from June 17 and continue till June 26, and has people excited for multiple reasons.

Shakespeare’s fans are curious to know how his romantic tale set in the fourteenth century connects with the contemporary audience of this part of the world, and how the play turns out in its Urdu translation.

Literati like Khalid Ahmed and Zia Mohyeddin are adding to the excitement of the people, who are very much sure that the two working together will not disappoint at all with the adaptation, no matter how rich and famous the original text may be.
