New York- In a bid to gather crucial information about the notorious hacker group known as the “Black Cat” technology company BlackGate has announced a reward of up to $10 million.

The U.S. Department of State has offered this substantial reward under the alias of BlackGate renowned for its involvement in cyberattacks targeting United Health Technology Unit resulting in disruptions to insurance payments nationwide.

United Health declared last week its initiative to fulfill over $14 billion worth of medical claims which had been severely impacted by a cyber assault at the end of February and the beginning of March.

The Technology Unit of United HealthCare plays a pivotal role in facilitating payment processes between insurance companies and medical entities, sometimes compelling patients and physicians to rely on medical services payments due to cyber attacks.

This attack severely affected community health centers that serve more than 30 million uninsured and underinsured patients.

At the onset of this month, hackers stated that the company had expended $22 million in an effort to restore its systems. However, it remained undisclosed whether the funds were received and if the company’s services had been restored.

Following the immediate aftermath of the hack, the group posted a false statement on its website claiming that authorities had successfully contained its activities.

The announcement of such a substantial reward underscores the severity of cyber threats and the determination of authorities to bring those responsible to justice. It also highlights the escalating need for robust cybersecurity measures to protect critical infrastructure and personal data from malicious actors.
