110 killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, Hamas leader arrested

A total of 110 people, including women and children, lost their lives during a series of Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip late on Monday and into early Tuesday, according to a medical source speaking to Al Jazeera.

These airstrikes targeted several areas, including the al-Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza, al-Balad in Jabaliya, al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, and the southern areas of Rafah and Khan Younis. Palestinian news agency WAFA confirmed these casualties, with Rafah bearing the highest number of victims, with more than 30 people killed. Khan Younis also reported at least 23 casualties, including children, while dozens were killed in separate strikes on the al-Shati and al-Bureij refugee camps.

Simultaneously, a senior leader of the Palestinian group Hamas was apprehended in the occupied West Bank following an Israeli nighttime raid on his home.

Adnan Hamarsheh, a prominent figure in Hamas, was seen being taken into custody in a video posted on social media, sitting in a wheelchair and surrounded by heavily armed Israeli forces. This arrest occurred in Ya’bad, a town in Jenin, and was reported by both Al Jazeera Arabic and the Palestinian Al Hadath news outlet.
