123 Islamabad polling stations identified as “sensitive”, security plans for the federal capital finalized

In a recent development, security forces have acquired information on sensitive polling sites in Islamabad in preparation for Pakistan’s 2024 elections.

According to the Special Branch, 990 polling stations would be set up across three seats in Islamabad. In the National Assembly constituencies, 836 voting stations are classified as normal, and 123 as sensitive.

Additionally, 31 voting booths in Islamabad have been identified as highly sensitive. The report has been given to the police, who will develop a security strategy for February 8, with the goal of preventing any unfortunate incidents during the election.

Reportedly, Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, the Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO), led a high-level meeting to create a comprehensive security strategy for the upcoming general elections. The conference, which included numerous police officers, intended to ensure a secure and peaceful polling process.

According to reports, the security strategy has been thoroughly developed, but failure to disburse funds is delaying the implementation of critical operational measures.

Administrative divisions have been established to ensure effective election management, with DIG level officers overseeing the process.
