The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) received the resignations of 11 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers and the by-polls on these seats would be held within 60-days.
According to media reports, the schedule of by-polls on these seats would be announced within a few days.
The resignations of 11 PTI members of the national assembly (MNAs) including Shireen Mazari, Ali Muhammad Khan, Ijaz Shah, Farrukh Habib, Shandana Gulzar, Fazal Muhammad, Fakhar Zaman, Abdul Shakoor Shad, Jameel Ahmed and Akram Cheema were accepted by the speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf.
However, the ex-deputy speaker Qasim Khan Suri has said that the decision of the speaker was unconstitutional because the resignations of 125 MNAs had already been accepted on April 10. He said that he had already sent a reference to the ECP over the acceptance of those resignations.
