Accountability judge Muhammad Bashir ‘withdraws’ leave application

Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir has withdrawn his application for leave until retirement, based on insider information.

The decision to retract the leave application came after the Ministry of Law and Justice declined to accept it. It’s worth noting that Judge Muhammad Bashir had initially requested leave until his scheduled retirement in March 2024.

In a letter addressed to the Islamabad High Court and the Ministry of Law and Justice, Judge Muhammad Bashir had cited ill health as the grounds for seeking leave until his retirement in March, according to sources.

Judge Bashir’s retirement from service is set for March 14 of this year, and he had sought leave from January 24 to March 14. The letter expressing his inability to fulfill his duties due to poor health has been received by both the high court and the law ministry.

It’s noteworthy that Judge Muhammad Bashir had presided over cases involving former prime ministers such as Nawaz Sharif, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Sayed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Shaukat Aziz, and the PTI chairman. Additionally, he conducted hearings on references against former president Asif Ali Zardari in the accountability court.
