Advised PM Khan to hold early elections after budget, says Sheikh Rashid

Interior Minister says voting on no-trust motion may be held on April 4

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid on Saturday said that he has recommended Prime Minister Imran Khan to hold early elections after presenting the federal budget for fiscal year 2022-23 because he has become more popular after the opposition submitted the no-confidence resolution against him.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Rashid emphasized that the notion of calling early elections was his own “opinion” and should not be considered as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s stance.

“I’m asking for early elections after presenting a good budget because this incompetent opposition has allowed us to win again,” Rashid said.

The interior minister went on to say that voting on the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan will probably be held on April 3 or 4.

Turning towards the upcoming rallies by the ruling PTI and the Pakistan Democratic Movement, Rashid said that everyone is allowed to hold rallies in Islamabad. However, no one can enter the Red Zone as per the directions by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He warned that nobody can disturb the law and order situation in the city as the SC has charged his ministry to make sure the law and order situation in Islamabad is maintained.
