Afghanistan announce T20 World Cup 2024 squad

Afghanistan has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA, with Rashid Khan appointed as the team’s captain.

Compared to the previous edition in 2022, Afghanistan has made several additions to their squad, including Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad.

Notably absent from the squad is Hashmatullah Shahidi, who led Afghanistan in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Shahidi’s last T20I appearance dates back to 2022.

Youngster Nangyal Kharoti, who made his international debut in March against Ireland, has earned his place in the squad.

The 20-year-old showcased his talent in the series, claiming five wickets in three matches with an impressive economy rate of just 5.90.

Another rising talent, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Ishaq, has also secured a spot in the squad.

Ishaq previously represented Afghanistan in the 2020 and 2022 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cups.

Rashid Khan will lead the spin department, supported by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and veteran Mohammad Nabi.

Meanwhile, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooq form Afghanistan’s fast-bowling lineup.
