Aid blockade leaves Gaza in dire situation

Sam Rose, the planning director at the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), expressed grave concern over the worsening situation in the Gaza Strip. He reported that no supplies have entered Gaza since Sunday, and areas in Rafah city are facing heavy bombardments.

According to Rose, the lack of aid, fuel, and supplies has left Gaza in a dire state, with only a few days’ worth of reserves left, particularly in terms of providing flour. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting that without fuel and water, essential services would soon shut down.

Rose described the atmosphere in Gaza as one of fear and desperation, with constant bombardments, smoke in the air, and a significant number of people being displaced. He estimated that around 110,000 people from Rafah had already fled their homes seeking safety.

He also pointed out the dire consequences of the ongoing crisis, stating that populations already on the brink of famine are now facing a medieval siege, scorched earth tactics, and heavy bombardments. He warned of potential casualties not just from the bombings but also from hunger, disease, and starvation, painting a grim picture of the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
