Al-Aqsa Mosque closed to muslims, Jewish visitors allowed in Jerusalem amid ongoing tensions

Muslims have been prevented from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s old city as Israeli authorities temporarily closed it, while Jewish visitors are allowed access for their prayers, as reported by Palestinian state news agency, WAFA.

This action goes against the established arrangement for the site, where non-Muslims can visit but only Muslims are allowed to worship.

This closure occurred during heightened tensions in the region due to the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel, adding to the existing strain in Jerusalem.

The Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam and the most sacred in Judaism, known as the Temple Mount, making it a frequent source of tensions between Israelis and Palestinians.

The status of religious sites in Jerusalem remains a contentious issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
