Alarming surge in child abductions grips Karachi, over 300 missing this year

Karachi is witnessing a troubling surge in cases of child abduction and mysterious disappearances, with over 300 children reported missing so far this year, according to data from Roshni Helpline.

Within just three months, the city has seen 239 cases of abduction and disappearance, painting a grim picture of child safety in the region. Shockingly, among the 18 children abducted, there has been no trace found yet, indicating the severity of the situation.

Muhammad Ali, the head of Roshni Helpline, has expressed concerns over the sinister motives behind these abductions, highlighting that innocent children are often targeted for illicit purposes such as illegal adoption or exploitation. While some relief has been observed with the recovery of over 221 missing children, the persisting trend of child abduction remains a pressing issue.

The data reveals a distressing pattern, with the highest number of abductions occurring in January, followed by a slightly lower count in February and March. The West District has emerged as the hotspot for such incidents, with areas like Gulshan Iqbal, Baldia Town, Orangi, Mahmoodabad, and Exhibition being particularly vulnerable.
