Angelina Jolie resigns as UN refugee ambassador after 21 years

The Oscar-winning American actress has resigned as the UN refugee ambassador after serving in the post for 21 years.

Angelina Jolie has announced that after working for the United Nations Refugee Agency for 21 years it was time for her to do the same thing in a slightly different way.

Jolie said that now she will engage in direct service with refugees and local organizations and will continue to work to solve the problems of those displaced away from their countries.

“However I am resigning as the UN Special Envoy for Refugees,” she added. Jolie conducted more than 60 field missions during this period and highlighted the problems of refugees globally.

The UNHCR praised the role of the 47-year-old actress saying she had worked tirelessly.

She mingled with the distressed migrants and drew global attention to the solutions to their problems.

Angelina Julie has also visited Pakistan twice. she came during the 2010 floods and recently a few weeks ago after the current catastrophic flooding.
