Asian Cup: Palestine football team make history by qualifying for knock outs for the first time

Palestine recorded a historic achievement on Tuesday by advancing to the Asian Cup knockout rounds for the first time, defeating Hong Kong 3-0.

Despite narrowly missing out on second place in Group C, Palestine advances as one of the top four third-placed teams. Oday Dabbagh was instrumental in securing this historic victory, scoring twice against Hong Kong.

This big triumph in Doha occurred amid Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Captain Musab Al-Battat thanked the fans who supported Palestine and promised to deliver joy to the people, despite the harsh backdrop of the ongoing conflict.

Palestinian players and staff, who have friends and family suffering from the conflict in Gaza, pledged to provide joy to their people back at home, through their efforts in the Asian Cup.

“We will do our best to put a smile for the people.”

On the other hand, despite a 2-1 defeat to group winners Iran, the United Arab Emirates advanced to the next round by finishing second in the group.
