Bahauddin Zakariya University introduces eight new wheat varieties in Multan

The Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, has launched eight new varieties of wheat, developed by wheat breeder Dr. Muhammad Qadeer Ahmad. These varieties not only offer increased yield potential but are also enhanced with zinc, an essential element for human health. They feature larger grain size and weight, and longer stalks, with expected yields up to 70 maunds per acre.

During the inauguration, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Nazim Hussain Labar, praised the relentless efforts of the department’s faculty, specifically acknowledging Dr. Qadeer Ahmad and Dr. Waqas Malik. Colleagues like Dr. Shakeel, Dr. Rashida, Dr. Ehsan Bhabha, Dr. Amir, Dr. Zafarullah, Dr. Atrat Noor, and Dr. Abdul Qayyum expressed their best wishes for the success of these varieties, hoping they would significantly enhance farmers’ incomes, contribute to national prosperity, and bring pride to the university. Dr. Qadeer Ahmad shared optimism that these new varieties will soon pass field trials and be available for farmer use.
